As UNO’s first-ever basketball coach, Ron Greene compiled a 146-65 (.692) record in eight seasons (1969-1977). Four of his teams qualified for NCAA Division II tournaments, finishing fourth in the nation in 1974 and second in 1975. Greene remains UNO’s all-time winningest men’s basketball coach. He was twice named Louisiana Collegiate Coach of the Year.

Greene, a native of Terre Haute, Ind., also served as Athletic Director at UNO and paved the way for the Privateers’ move up to Division I for the 1975-1976 school year. His coaching career began at Loyola University as an assistant coach in 1965. After one year as an assistant, he served as the Wolfpack's head coach for two years before moving on to UNO.

After his time at UNO, Greene also coached at Mississippi State (1977-78), earning SEC Coach of the Year honors in his only season, Murray State (1978-85) and Indiana State (1985-89).
