During the course of the 2009-2010 prep basketball season, virtually all observers felt like a Catholic League team would get to the Top 28 tournament and possibly win it all. That turned out to be true for two league teams but it wasn't the team that everyone expected.

Brother Martin upset powerful St. Augustine in the state quarterfinals and went on to Lafayette and beat Hammond 68-66 before downing Scotlandville 55-54 to win it all. The championship was the sixth state championship in Brother Martin history. Jesuit also reached the Top 28 tournament.

The Crusaders won the state championship in 2004 and 2005 with D.J. Augustin of the Charlotte Bobcats and Ryan Brock leading the way.

With long-time NBA center Rick Robey and Donald Newman leading the way, Brother Martin won the state title in 1974.
