Perque topped an outstanding career by leading the Cabrini softball team to the Allstate Sugar Bowl LHSAA Class 4A State Championship game - its first-ever state title game appearance. The third-seeded Crescents defeated No. 2 West Ouachita, 2-1, in the state semifinals as Perque struck out 11 batters and allowed just one seventh-inning run before striking out the final batter with the tying run on third to send her team to the finals. The Crescents fell in the championship game to top-seeded North DeSoto, 3-0, despite another strong effort from Perque. She also struck out 11 batters while allowing just one run in a quarterfinal victory over Bastrop. In the second round of the playoffs, Perque tossed a no-hitter with 17 strikeouts against Grant. For the season, the senior struck out 329 batters to finish her career with 1,025 K's.
Perque was also selected as the Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month in April of 2015.
Other April nominees included a pair of college baseball aces, a bowling star and a track & field standout. Tulane's Emerson Gibbs posted a 3-1 record with a 1.47 ERA in five starts as he led the Green Wave to the top of the American Athletic Conference standings during the month of April, while Southeastern's Mac Sceroler posted a perfect 5-0 month of April for the Lions, tallying a 1.69 ERA with 33 strikeouts in 32 innings. Brother Martin's Max Oertling won the individual state championship gold medal as the top bowler in the state, firing a 676 series, leading Brother Martin to its second consecutive boys state bowling championship. UNO's Michael Nicholls, a freshman hurdler, qualified to participate in the NCAA East Regional (end of May) after breaking the UNO school record for the 110 hurdles three times in April.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
