Navy had been coming off a season-ending upset of Army.Fullback Joe Gattuso earned the Miller Trophy as the game's most valuable player after leading the Middies with 111 yards rushing and a pair of touchdowns. Halfback Jack Weaver tallied 106 rushing yards and scored the other touchdown on a pass from George Welsh. Welsh, in addition to running the option flawlessly, completed 8-of-14 passes for 76 yards.
