36th Annual Sugar Bowl Classic ~ January 1, 1970
#13 Ole Miss 27 (Final: 8-3-0, #8)
#3 Arkansas 22 (Final: 9-2-0, #7)

Almost single-handedly, Archie Manning spoiled Arkansas' return trip to the Sugar Bowl, leading Ole Miss to a stunning upset of the third-ranked Razorbacks, 27-22. Afterward, the Rebel quarterback was an overwhelming pick for the Miller-Digby Award after racking up 312 yards in total offense, including 273 through the air.

Manning completed 21-of-35 passes and ran 18 yards for a touchdown. Despite the loss, Arkansas quarterback Bill Montgomery had an excellent game as well, connecting on 16-of-34 passes for 338 yards and two touchdowns.  Like Manning, he also ran for a score.
