Displaying the most potent offense ever seen in a Sugar Bowl to that point, Oklahoma crushed Auburn, 40-22, before a crowd of 84,031.

With Jack Mildren directing the OU wishbone attack on the way to the Miller-Digby Award, the Sooners rolled to a then-record 31 points in the first half. Mildren scored three times in the game and rushed 30 times for 149 yards as part of a rushing attack that ground out 439 yards in all.

Other Sooner highlights were a 71-yard punt return for a touchdown by Joe Wylie, and a record 53-yard field goal by John Carroll.

Though losing decisively, Auburn did mount a second-half surge behind Heisman Trophy winner Pat Sullivan, who completed 20-of-44 passes for 250 yards and a touchdown.
