NO CHANGE AT TOP OF BCS STANDINGS; BUT BIG JUMP FOR TCU

Sunday, October 25, 2009

(Oct. 25, 2009) - After an unblemished weekend for much of the top 25, there was no movement at the very top of the BCS standings released on Sunday evening.  However, Boise State dropped three spots to No. 7 despite winning, letting TCU move ahead of it to No. 6 in the all-important positioning for an automatic BCS bid. Only one team from a non-automatic qualifying conference is assured of a BCS bid. TCU of the Mountain West and Boise State of the WAC are the top two teams from non-automatic qualifying leagues.

The University of Florida remains in the top position, followed by SEC rival Alabama and Big12 leader Texas. Undefeated Iowa moved up to No. 4 after a last-second win on Saturday while USC is the highest-rated one-loss team at No. 5. TCU, Boise and Cincinnati round out the top 8. LSU remained at No. 9 and Oregon moved up to No. 10 in the latest standings.

The top game coming up this week features USC playing at Oregon in a battle for Pac-10 supremacy. However, another key match-up will be No. 3 Texas playing at Oklahoma State - the Cowboys have won five in a row and are currently at No. 14 in the BCS standings. Top-ranked Florida will be challenged by Georgia in their annual showdown in Jacksonville, while Alabama has the week off.
