The Destrehan Wildcats got the 2013 season off to a perfect 4-0 start thanks to the play of Isom. The 6-foot-4, 215 pound senior, who has committed to play college ball at Utah, completed 45-of-68 passes for 873 yards and 13 touchdowns with no interceptions in victories against West Jefferson, Helen Cox, Dutchtown and Terrebonne. He also has rushed for 188 yards and two touchdowns. In a season-opening victory against West Jefferson, he completed 12-of-13 passes for 267 yards and five touchdowns while also running for a score. He followed that with a four-touchdown performance in a win of Helen Cox and then three scores against Dutchtown. He closed the month with another 200-yard game with two TDs in a 42-17 defeat of Terrebonne.

Isom edged three other star high school athletes: Omari Jones, the quarterback for McMain High, was the Metro area's passing yardage leader with 1,437 yards in a 3-1 month; Darrel Williams, a 6-0, 228-pound running back totaled 744 rushing yards and scored 10 touchdowns to lead the John Ehret Patriots to a 3-1 record for the month - after the team was winless in 2012; and Mt. Carmel volleyball star Katie Kampen was a key cog in the Cubs' impressive 23-2 month of September.

The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
