Allstate Sugar Bowl National Prep Basketball Classic Begins
Thursday, January 6, 2011
The Friends of Prep Sports, LLC, Riverside Academy, and the AllState Sugar Bowl are proud to announce the 1st annual AllState Sugar Bowl National Prep Basketball Classic.
"This is an excellent event for the Sugar Bowl's repertoire; it meshes perfectly with our mission, which is to sponsor and promote amateur sports as well as foster revenue and spark economic growth in the region," said Allstate Sugar Bowl President David Melius. "We are thrilled with the field that will be participating, with multiple state champions and teams from six different states."
The National Prep Classic is a three-day event featuring 16 national-caliber high school boys’ programs. The tournament is scheduled for Thursday, January 6th thru Saturday, January 8th at the Pontchartrain Center, Country Day High School and Archbishop Rummel High School. The Championship game will be played at the Pontchartrain Center on Saturday night. Ten Louisiana high schools and six schools from out-of-state will compete in the event. Each team is guaranteed four games.
Our goals are simple: to run the best high school basketball tournament in the country, one that gives money back to prep sports in the metro area. And, to fill the hotels and restaurants of Kenner and the surrounding cities and parishes.
Thousands of basketball fans will attend this event. Besides coaches, players and parents, Kenner and the New Orleans area will be visited by hundreds of college basketball coaches scouting the best talent in the country.
