Klein and Byrd Undefeated After Day One of Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic

Klein High School from Houston and Byrd High School from Shreveport are undefeated in varsity action after the opening day of the third annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic at City Park on Saturday. The three-day event features 27 varsity, junior varsity and middle school boys' teams. A full schedule is available at www.AllstateSugarBowl.org. There is no charge for fans to attend the event.
Klein, the two-time defending champions rolled through its three games on Saturday, allowing just two goals while scoring 28 of its own. Byrd, meanwhile, won its first two games handily, but then had to hold off a second-half Jesuit rally for a 6-4 victory in the final game of the day.
In junior varsity action, Ithaca, which traveled from New York for the event, cruised to three victories and is a likely participant in the championship.
The varsity and junior varsity championships will be played at 1 p.m. on Sunday with the top two teams from each division meeting. Top teams will be decided based on record; in the event of a tie, goals scored will be the deciding factor.
