Allstate Sugar Bowl and BCS Extend Agreement Through 2014 Bowl Season

Tuesday, March 10, 2009

The Allstate Sugar Bowl and the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) have extended their agreement through the 2014 bowl season. The four-year agreement was finalized among the BCS, the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the Orange Bowl, the Fiesta Bowl and new broadcast partner ESPN.

"The Sugar Bowl has been a terrific partner since the BCS's inception and we are looking forward to continuing that relationship for the next cycle," said BCS coordinator John Swofford.

"We want to thank the conference commissioners and John Swofford for recognizing the efforts of our city and our membership," Allstate Sugar Bowl CEO Paul Hoolahan said. "We always strive to put on the best game possible and it is very gratifying to be recognized for that with our continued participation in the BCS."

New Orleans will be the host of both the Allstate Sugar Bowl and the BCS Championship game in January of 2012, the second time the city and bowl have "double-hosted." In 2008, double-hosting brought over $400 million of economic impact to the City of New Orleans and the State of Louisiana. The economic impact of the Sugar Bowl alone is annually over $150 million. Over the past decade, the organization has generated over $1 billion for the state and local economies.

"This is a great day for the Allstate Sugar Bowl, the city of New Orleans and the state of Louisiana," Allstate Sugar Bowl President Richard Smith said. "We are very excited to continue our role in the BCS system through 2014. In our first 75 years, we have established ourselves as one of the top bowl experiences in the country; this agreement assures that we will continue to bring the best that college football has to offer to the city of New Orleans."

The 2010 Allstate Sugar Bowl is the final Sugar Bowl in the current agreement. It will be played on Friday, Jan. 1 and will be televised by Fox.
