Green Wave will host LSU, Long Beach State and UNO for the 2009 Classic
NEW ORLEANS – The eighth annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic will be hosted by Tulane University on Sept. 11-12 at Fogelman Arena. Joining the Green Wave in the event will be LSU, Long Beach State and the University of New Orleans.
Tulane will open the tournament with its Sept. 11 match against LSU. Prior to this match, the Green Wave athletic department will hold a special ceremony to unveil banners displaying the 2008 Conference USA and tournament championships, as well as a banner marking the program’s first-ever trip to the NCAA tournament.
LSU begins its 2009 season with three road matches before returning home to host Nebraska, Louisiana-Lafayette and Tulane. The Tigers will then travel to New Orleans to participate in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Classic taking on the Green Wave in the first match of the tournament on Sept. 11 at 7 p.m., followed by Long Beach State and UNO on Sept. 12. This is LSU’s fifth appearance in the Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic.
Long Beach State will host two tournaments of its own before traveling to New Orleans for its first appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic. The Beach’s first match will take place Sept. 11 at 4 p.m against UNO. They will face LSU at 11 a.m. on Sept. 12, followed by Tulane at 8 p.m.
UNO has not yet released it 2009 schedule, however the Privateers are set to make their fifth appearance in the Allstate Sugar Bowl Volleyball Classic.
Tulane has won the tournament for the past two consecutive years.
