ALABAMA AND FLORIDA REMAIN ATOP BCS STANDINGS

Monday, October 22, 2012

Alabama and Florida remain No. 1 and No. 2, respectively, in the latest BCS standings after both teams had convincing victories on Saturday - the Crimson Tide rolled over Tennessee while the Gators crunched No. 7 South Carolina. Kansas State, meanwhile, jumped Oregon for the No. 3 position after blowing out then No. 13 West Virginia on the road. Oregon, which rolled over Arizona State, is now No. 4, followed by Notre Dame, which remains No. 5 after beating BYU.

The only movement in the second five was due to South Carolina losing and falling to No. 13. LSU remains at No. 6, with Oregon State (7), Oklahoma (8), USC (9) and Georgia (10) each moving up one spot.

The SEC still has four top-10 teams and with Mississippi State at No. 11, South Carolina at No. 13 and Texas A&M at No. 20, the league still has seven overall ranked squads. The Big 12 has five ranked teams, followed by the Pac-12 with four. The ACC, Big East and Big Ten each have two ranked teams, while the Mountain West and the MAC each have one.

The SEC once again has a pair of major showdowns this week as No. 2 Florida and No. 10 Georgia meet in Jacksonville for their annual dust-up and then top-ranked Alabama hosts the surprising undefeated Bulldogs from Mississippi State. In another huge game as far as the BCS Standings, No. 5 Notre Dame will put its perfect record on the line against No. 8 Oklahoma on the road. Thursday night also features a key BCS battle as No. 16 Louisville hosts Cincinnati in a critical Big East tilt - the Bearcats just suffered their first loss of the year while the Cardinals had a comeback win over USF to remain undefeated.

While there weren't any major shake-ups in the standings, three teams did drop out, allowing the Big Ten to get its first representatives of the year in No. 22 Michigan and No. 25 Wisconsin. The other newcomer to the rankings is undefeated Ohio from the Mid-American Conference.
