Klein Defends Title in Second Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic Saturday, March 1, 2008
Klein (Texas) defended its title by defeating Byrd-Shreveport 5-1 in the championship game of the Second Annual Allstate Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic at LaSalle Park. Shawn McEvoy and Cody Watson each scored two goals for Klein, who jumped to a 3-0 first-half lead. McEvoy and Watson each scored goals in each half, with Andrew Gibeau also scoring for Klein. Spencer Lane scored the lone goal for Byrd. McEvoy earned offensive MVP honors, while the defensive MVP honors went to the entire Klein defense, which allowed just 6 goals in 5 games. Local teams Brother Martin and Jesuit were among the 10 teams competing for this year's title. Klein High School of Spring, Texas is back to defend its crown. Other participating schools include C.E. Byrd and Loyola College Prep, both of Shreveport, Catholic of Baton Rouge, St. Thomas More of Lafayette, Cedar Park (TX), Gulf Coast of Gulfport, MS, and Kingwood (TX). In addition, seven junior varsity teams were in action, led by local/area schools Brother Martin, Jesuit, De La Salle, and Mandeville, along with Catholic, St. Thomas More, and Gulf Coast.
