John Curtis Star Named Athlete of the Month

Standout running back Torrey Pierce of powerhouse John Curtis has been named the Allstate Sugar Bowl Greater New Orleans Amateur Athlete of the Month for December.

Pierce helped lead John Curtis to the state championship game in December. In the semifinals against St. Charles Catholic, Pierce recorded 169 rushing yards with three touchdowns. He followed that with 128 yards on 16 carries with a touchdown in the title game. He was named the Curtis Most Valuable Player for the championship game.
The Greater New Orleans Sports Selection Committee has been selecting an Amateur Athlete of the Month each month since 1958. The athlete must be a native of the greater New Orleans area or must compete for a team in the metropolitan region in order to be eligible. Each of the monthly award winners will be honored in the summer at the Greater New Orleans Sports Hall of Fame Induction and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Allstate Sugar Bowl.
